Serving Preschool ChildrenUnder Title I Part A LEAs are being encouraged to use some of their Title I funds for early childhood programs and activities. The U.S. Department of Education is committed over the long term to expanding early childhood educational opportunities and creating a more seamless web of high-quality services for parents and children.

Even Start Purpose • Age-appropriate education to prepare children (ages birth to 8) for success in school and life experiences • Engage parents in literacy training that leads to economic self-sufficiency • Training for parents regarding how to be the primary teacher for their children and full partners in their children’s education • Provide interactive literacy activities for parents and children.
