  9. I. TERRIBLE IN/WITH RELATIONSHIPS 1 Kings 16:28-31 • Ahab treated the sins of his predecessors as trivial - קָלַל qalal (a light thing)v.31 • Jezebel’s father (Ethbaal – Baal is alive. He murdered his predecessor/priest to the pagan gods Astarte and Melquart ) • No more notorious husband and wife team is known in all sacred Scripture (cf. 21:25-26).

THREATEN THE PEOPLE OF GOD 1 Kings 19:1-4 • Jezebel is afraid to confront the man of God in person (sends a messenger) • Jezebel gives the man of God (Elijah) 24 hrs to (1) leave (2) die • Jezebel had the power and wherewith all to kill Elijah but she wanted even more to discredit Elijah and his God (before all the new converts who has aided Elijah in executing prophets of Baal)

TRUST ABANDONED 1 Kings 21:1-15 • Jezebel found Ahab sulking in bed (showing his real character) thus she decided she would handle matters (re: Naboth) herself • “turned away/pouted” (v.4) סָבַב (sawbab) speaks of turning one’s face (to the wall) • Jezebel can only be described as an unscrupulous double dealer (who uses Ahab’s signet ring which implies “he knew” and agreed) creates a letter (a plan) of conspiracy

  23. WHAT WAS THE RESULT OF THIS WOMAN (JEZEBEL)? 2 Kings 9:36e-37 • Try to Serve two masters: Baal or YHWH (bad decisions led to the downfall of the Northern Kingdom) • Jezebel is undaunted by the demonstration of God’s exclusive power

  24. WOMEN OF GOD POSSESSED (3) COMMON FACTORS • Love for God (Deut.6:5; Matt.22:37) • Love for People (Lev.19:18; Mtt.5:43) • Love for God’s Word (Isa.40:8; 1 Pet.1:25)
