Project Background • 2006 Mangrove Assessment, surveyed 38 mangrove ecosystems throughout Grenada and Carriacou.
PROJECT GOAL • To engage local community groups and government in the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, in a community lead mangrove restoration initiative.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES • Establishment of a research and monitoring system; • Increasing community awareness to the significance of the mangrove; • Implementation of a restoration and stewardship programme; and • Replanting the denuded areas.
PROJECT ACTIVITIES • Ecological assessment of the restoration site. • Outreach and community support campaign. • Implementation of restoration, monitoring and stewardship.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES • Local appreciation and stewardship of mangrove ecosystem increased and improved. • Livelihood opportunities developed and creating employment in the management and restoration of mangroves. • A reforested and ecologically functional mangrove habitat at the project site.
