  1. Research Experience for Teachers AKA how Mr. R and Ms. Harrington spent their summer

  2. SUMMER GOALS • Science and Math teachers from around the Milwaukee area were paired with engineers to learn about cutting- edge, energy related research • Energy was chosen because it is a current topic that is relevant to teachers, students, and the world around us • Engage students at the pre-college level to enter into STEM fields in college and later on

  3. Water Project • Aeration is used in the wastewater treatment process to reduce the amount of organic mater in wastewater • Try to make this process more energy efficient

  4. Wind Turbine/ Power Analysis • Reduce the lose of wind flow around turbine blades • Optimize the design on wind turbine blades • Increase the efficiency of power generation

  5. Biomass Gasification • Study how different factors affect the gasification of biomass

  6. Gas Turbine Blade Cooling • Investigate the heat transfer and flow of different ribs on the surface of a cooling channel

  7. Gas Turbine Combustor Dilution • In a gas turbine combustion engine, hot air can damage the turbine blades (creates hot spots) • This can be costly to fix • Goal: to study how hot air and cold air can be more effectively be mixed in order to avoid damage to turbine blades
