Purpose of the trip • Provide a networking opportunity for students, staff and alumni • See first-hand how alumni are utilizing their social work skills in the job market
Trip Agenda – What are we doing? • Sat. October 12 – Travel Day • Sun. October 13 – Alumni Panel/Free time • Mon. October 14 – Agency/Alumni Visit during the day. Alumni Reception in the evening • Tues. October 15 – Agency/Alumni Visit during the first half of the day. Travel Day later in the evening
Where are we staying? • BEST WESTERN PLUS Tuscan Inn at Fisherman's Wharf • 425 North Point Street, San Francisco, CA 94133 (Fisherman's Wharf) • Alumni Panel Presentation and Alumni Reception will be held at this location
How much does this cost/Per student? • Estimated cost of the trip is $1225 which includes • Airfare ($550) • Hotel/double occupancy/three nights ($515) • Transportation to/from San Francisco airport ($40) • Food ($120/about $30 a day) • University will cover a portion of airfare costs ($280) and the full amount of the hotel ($515) which is $795 • Students are responsible for ($430) towards the cost of the trip which is a portion of the airfare ($270) plus meals ($120) and transportation ($40) • Two student scholarships are available for ($270) each
What is the financial process to Support the trip? • Students pay all expenses for the trip including plane ticket, hotel, etc. • The School’s financial portion of the trip is applied to each student account and released to the student well in advance of the trip • Scholarship applications are emailed to each student upon selection to go on the trip
How do I apply? • Submit an application that includes: • Basic information • One-page essay • Updated resume Application due date: August 16, 2013 (5pm) Drop off at Career Center (1696 SSWB) or email to ssw-cso@umich.edu
Timeline – What Happens Next? • Application due date: August 16, 2013 (5pm) • (6-8) Participants selected: August 19, 2013 • Early September: Participant general meeting, distribution of financial aid for the trip • Late September: alumni selections • Late September/early October: General meeting, if needed/last minute details
How are participants selected? • Good fit for the trip • Priority will sometimes go to those graduating before our next trip in 2014 if necessary
Tell us about the alumni • Case manager/supervisor HIV/AIDS • Mental Health Practitioners • Community Planner/CO work with children and youth at local agencies • Program Manager/Fellowship program for University of Cal., San Francisco Pediatric Division
