Musical Intelligence Can be integrated into Social Work by use of Musical Therapy Techniques. Use of Music Therapy could work wonders for clients who would come to see me. Music can have very positive psychological effects on the mind; brightening mood and stimulating positive neurotransmitters (Serotonin). Biological effects of music could result in better memory, the thing that needs to be remembered becomes associated with a song. I could help clients identify their feelings and express them through song or poetry as a way of coping with problems they may have.
Interpersonal (Social)Intelligence Could be integrated into Social Work by use of group therapy. Group therapy would keep social interaction intact and would keep clients from retreating into themselves. (Keep from isolation) Using Interpersonal intelligence I could involve my clients in deep critical thinking that could result in the resolution of their problems. Interpersonal intelligence helps with social development; clients with social disorders and some mental illnesses could benefit greatly from this. Having empathy for my clients would help greatly with the process I would be using to connect with them.
Linguistic (Language)Intelligence Would be integrated into ways of developing plans for clients care. Because I love words, I might be able to help my clients find the words to identify themselves and their feelings about things going on in their lives. Learning other languages would allow me to interact with multi-cultural families. For clients, I could even make any sessions with them educational and fun.
Education and Training • I plan to continue my education at Mott Community College for my: Associate’s in Applied Science
Education and Training • I then plan to transfer to the University of Michigan , Flint for my: Bachelors in Arts with Concentration in Social Work (BA) Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) Masters in Social Work (MSW)
Education and Training • I plan to take on an internship at Hurley Mental Health Associates of Flint, MI. • From there, I am going to continue going to school by transferring to Oakland University for my: Doctorate (Ph.D.)
Education and Training • After completing my internship at HMHA, I would begin the experiential two years of supervised Clinical Social Work • After these two years, I plan to get my License of Masters in Social Work (LMSW) from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, so that I could begin practicing.
Most Attractive Career Aspect The number one draw for me in Clinical Social Work would be fulfilling the desire to help people and knowing that somehow, I am making a difference in someone’s life.
Second Most Attractive Career Aspect The second would be the benefits that I would get depending on where I choose to work: • Dental • Medical
Third Most Attractive Career Aspect The third would be the money that I would be making. • The pay apparently is not that good, but the money is not what matters to me anyway. • This is why money is my third draw for Clinical Social Work.
Career Concerns • Confrontational or violent clients • Having to renew my license every two years • Letting my emotions get in the way of professionalism • Facing ethical dilemmas (Having my own personal values conflict with the values of my clients)
The Big Picture I can see Social Work playing a huge role in the rest of my life by: • Helping me keep up with new ways of communication. • Allowing me to open myself up and come out of my shell. • Allowing me to achieve educational goals by doing what I am good at.
