The Three TemptationsSmall Groups – Read Luke 4: 1-13 together • What do these three temptations represent? • How are these temptations relevant to our lives? • Why is Jesus ‘going out into the desert’ an appropriate place to meet His Father? How can you create a desert in your life to meet God? What would you experience in an actual desert? • Other interesting elements to this story?
Meaning of the 3 Temptations • to satisfy His hunger (sensuality) We are often tempted by our bodies (grumpy when we miss a meal, don’t get our favorite popsicle, etc.) • to neglect the first and foremost commandment for the sake of power (idolatry – worshipping what is not God for the sake power) We will be tempted in life to think ‘it is all about me and my power’ or to neglect worship of God for worship of ourselves. • to show that God would favor Him (pride & vanity) We sometimes will want to test God in life and/or will suffer from the sin of vanity and pride.
