NEISD 2012 Robotics Showcase What: NEISD Elementary Robotics Showcase When: Saturday May 12th Where: Churchill High School Challenge Theme: Olympic Sports
Inventions Strand Showcase • Students create and develop a unique robot that will solve a real world problem. • Teams need to create a display board with photos and information about the invention. (think science fair) • Each team should be able to explain: • What their robot does • How they will market their robot • Why they chose to create this robot
Inventions Strand Showcase cont. • Each team will need to be prepared to demonstrate their invention multiple times. • The campuses will be responsible for bringing all robots, displays and accessories. • We will provide a table for the display and robot. • We will provide feedback that will be collected and returned to the campuses.
Challenge Showcase • Theme: Olympic Sports • Objective of Showcase • Basic Challenge part 1 (Point Turn, Curve Turn, Parking Bay, Detect Dark Line, Drive in a Square) • Advanced Challenges part 2 (This can include any combination of skills learned in the Common Palette)
Challenge Showcase cont. • We provide challenge boards • Challenge board do’s and don’ts • Don’t use wet glue or paint on boards • Do use glue sticks, markers or even construction paper • All 3-D figures or decorations must be detachable (Velcro dots work great.) • Mock up the exact design on butcher paper first
Challenge Showcase cont. • We will pickup the challenge boards and attachments • We will provide computers • You must bring your robots and USB cords
All instructions for the challenges must be submitted using the PowerPoint template provided. • Your challenge will be based on one of the following Common Palette activities that you choose with an Olympic Sports theme. (Point Turn, Curve Turn, Parking Bay, Detect Dark Line, Drive in a Square) • Your Challenge should be broken down into 2 parts. • The first part should be easy to achieve and be based on the Common Palette activity that you chose. Ideally this task should be able to be completed in 10 minutes or less. • The second part should be more difficult but attainable in the 20 minute time allotment. The task should be an extension of the first challenge in order to allow completion in the allotted time. • Each slide should include numbered steps and a diagram of the challenge. • The diagram should include images, measurements, arrows and lines to give a visual representation of the challenge. • When you finish your instructions delete this slide and the sample slides. • Save the Challenge Instructions and email it to rmulli1@neisd.net. You will need to save the directions with the following naming convention challenge_campus_12 (ie: parkbay_eldorado_12) Challenge Instructions
