Welcome to Curriculum Night!. Mrs. Weber’s Class. Meet Mrs. Weber. This is my eighth year of teaching fifth grade. I have also taught three and ½ years of 4 th grade and ½ of a year as a teaching assistant.

  1. Welcome to Curriculum Night! Mrs. Weber’s Class

  2. Meet Mrs. Weber • This is my eighth year of teaching fifth grade. • I have also taught three and ½ years of 4th grade and ½ of a year as a teaching assistant. • Received my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University and my bachelors from ISU. • Husband – Andrew – firefighter in Forest Park • Daughter-Julia-5 • Son-Zachary-9months • Dog-black Labrador named Cosmo

  3. Attendance • Call the office • Please send a note if you know in advance • Check in with the office and leave items with the office • Homework will be given for vacations, if requested with enough notice given.

Language Arts • Various writing lessons that are more real world, research based, not 5 paragraph essays • Narrative, informative/explanatory, and opinion • Words their Way • Grammar/Vocabulary • StoryWorks magazine • Daily 4 / CAFÉ • Read to Self • Read to Someone • Work on Word Work • Work on Writing • Literature Circles • Teacher Read Aloud • Student Goal-30 books • Readers/Writers Notebooks • StoryWorks magazine

  6. The Daily 5 Will ensure that all children are working at their level of challenge while taking responsibility for their learning and behavior. Will provide meaningful instruction blocks. The Daily Five-(we are only using four) is a series of literacy tasks (reading to self, reading with someone, writing, and word work) which students complete daily while the teacher meets with small groups or confers with individuals. The Daily Five is a structure that will help students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working with peers that will lead to a lifetime of independent literacy.

Math Groups • Mrs. Weber, Mrs. Majewski, Mr. Perry: utilize EDMath and CCSS with small & whole group instruction; opportunities for re-teaching and extension. • Mrs. Stortz and Ms. Vlakancic: utilize EDMath and CCSS, accelerated pace with small & whole group instruction; opportunities for re-teaching and extenstion. Mrs. Maaske will push into these classrooms daily • All classrooms will focus on problem-solving and critical thinking.

Class Rules and Disciplineand Grading • Classroom Rules • Character Counts • They should be circling the green, yellow, or red face in assignment notebook. • Positive Reinforcement- • Pillar Poms • Homework Board • Class Dojo • Class Participation • Independent work and homework • Tests • Late assignments-accepted, but possible lower grade

Homework • Expect homework every night-although there is time in class • Reinforces concepts • Encourages responsibility, organization and independence • Projects • will always include directions and time frame • chance for creative and unique style to come through • will present several times in front of class
