Does the waste contain material of human or animal origin (blood, blood products, tissues, cell lines)? Is waste contaminated with any material of human or animal origin? Does the waste contain cultures of bacteria, recombinant DNA organisms, viruses, or material that is contaminated with such agents (pipet tips, gloves, microfuge tubes, etc.)? See Autoclaving Flowchart Material can be disposed with regular trash or down the drain WASTE DISPOSAL FLOWCHART Contact Radiation Safety Officer for assistance x6771 Contact UAF Hazmat for disposal or assistance x5617 Does the waste contain any hazardous chemicals (formaldehyde, ethidium bromide, flammable liquids, etc.), or is the pH of the material <5 or >10? Contact Incinerator Supervisor for disposal x7020 Collect sharps in puncture-resistant container marked “Sharps”. If bacterial or viral agents are present, place sharps container in autoclave bag and follow Autoclaving Flowchart If no bacterial or viral agents are present, remove any “Biohazard” labels and place sharps container in box marked “Broken Glass”. Seal and dispose in regular trash.
