The Heart Foundation • The Heart Foundation is a charity! • We engage with the Australian and Victorian governments • We engage with and provide support resources for the Australian and Victorian community • We invest in world class CVD research • We provide a free Health InformationService • We provide guidelines for health professionals
What does CVD include? • Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the broader term that refers to heart, stroke and blood vessel disease. Some types include: • Coronary heart disease • Stroke • Congenital heart disease • Heart failure
Heart Disease: The realities The largest single cause of death in Australia – around 24,000 people each year. Around 1.4 million Australians estimated to have disability/burden associated with cardiovascular conditions. Medications Impact on lifestyle Depression and anxiety Good news – less people are dying from heart disease. 80% of heart disease is preventable.
Not Exactly! For people aged 45-64 years 1 in 9 deaths is from heart disease

Tick To improve the nutritional profile of the food supply in a direction that is consistent with nutrition policies and recommendations for the general population from the Heart Foundation and the Government. ~ Basically making the foods Australians eat most often healthier This will be achieved by: • Influencing food companies and outlets to manufacture and market foods that meet high nutrition standards; • Encouraging consumers to purchase these healthier foods; and • Influencing food policy and legislation.
What does the Tick mean? • It’s a healthier choice compared to similar foods.Eg: Bread with the Tick is a healthier choice of bread • It has been independently tested to ensure it meets the Program’s strict nutrition and labelling standards. (And for Tick eating out, there are process standards too)
