Year 12 is a big year, • just like every year is a big year for our children.
Year 12 should NOT define a person. • While choosing a pathway beyond year 12 is difficult, there are many available pathways. • Access to these pathways is becoming more flexible and open over time.
Year 12 students need a normal year. • How do you keep it normal?
Regular Sleep • 9.25 hours a night
Study time • (37.5 hours per week?) • School - attend all lessons • Home - at nightand /or weekends
Social Life • In balance with the rest of their life
Regular exercise • Sporting clubs often provide organised exercise and a social life. • An individual exercise routine may be appropriate.
Downtime • Time to relax – time to do anything or nothing
Family life • Normal family expectations and commitments
Paid Work? • Up to 12 hours per week
Trust • that they can solve most of their own problems. • (Wisdom is knowing when to hold back and when to intervene.)
There will be bumps • Recognise that this is normal.
Seek out supports • (for you and your child). • School – Tutor, subject teachers, Counsellors, etc • Family, friends and community
