BloomsburgUniversity of Pennsylvania Residence Life About Residence Life- Residence Life establishes a learning based community which seeks to enrich student integration based on these principles: integrity, respect, inclusion, care, dedication, and service. There are two staffs involved in residence life; there is the administrative staff that handles housing and placement and there is the community assistant staff that works with residents personally and handles college retention. The community assistant staff is divided into three different sections: Community Assistants (CAs), they live in the dorm halls with the residents and they supervise the residence halls, Graduate Hall Directors (GHDs), they supervise the residence halls and manage the CAs, Area Coordinators (ACs), they supervise several different dorm halls and manage the GHDs and CAs. Why this manual will be important for Residence Life- Maintaining college retention is a struggle for colleges all across the United States. College retention is a serious problem for Bloomsburg’s Residence Life; their retention rate is 50%. Students who are classified as At-Risk students make up more than half of that percentage. MAP-Works is a new nation-wide program that is helping universities retain students through all four years of college. With the MAP-Works manual my team is creating for them, Residence Life will have a new method to increase their retention rate. How will Residence Life use this manual- This manual will help Residence Life professional staff in several different ways. First, it will be used as a comprehensive guide for residence life. Second, it will teach the office how to navigate the MAP-Works website, and finally, it will help Residence Life design effective methods to help them increase their retention rate.
