Improvement in overall climate Smaller student body Common consultation teaming built into the schedule Research based behavior programs from Utah Behavior Initiative are more appropriate Climate and Discipline
Fewer discipline problems Tardies are down by 2704 Higher Attendance Rates- Absences down 1668 periods Reduction of 290 referrals and 62 suspensions Drastic reduction in “Major” Incidents – Fights, Weapons, Drugs West lake Climate
129 fewer tardies Over 92% report they have not seen or experienced physical disrespect in halls Fights are almost non-existent- 13 students Did not have a tardy bell for extension time until almost a month into school Valley climate
9th grade credit no longer drives the schedule More attention to individual student needs Common consultation teaming is relevant Schedule has built in time for extensions and interventions Westlake students have improved GPA and CPA averages Academics and student growth
Second year of Extensions • Common Consultation Teams built into Master Schedule • Mustang Room Intervention & Enrichment including: • Grade Improvement Monday • Enrichment Tuesday • Vocabulary Wednesday • School Wide Assemblies & Lesson Plans Thursday West Lake academics
Grade level teams worked successfully with 38 students Immediate response to student need and parent requests 135 Honors students learned new research programs and strategies Students give positive feedback for interventions Valley Academics
Both schools have strong programs in music and theatre Intramurals engages large numbers of students Musicals are well done and greatly enjoyed Athletics and the arts
Loss off CTE money and equipment Harder to create master schedule for smaller school (Valley only) Teachers have more preparations and in some cases subjects Challenges of half-time/shared teachers Many feel the loss of competition with other schools Challenge
