  2. World Water Forum 7(WWF7) provides a unique opportunity to feature water and sanitation issues worldwide.

  3. Why we need the media?

  4. Analysis of 1200 newspaper articles on water in Australia(1) • 14% included scientific evidence to substantiate claims • Failed to include a wide spectrum of opinions • When the news media fails to communicate the scientific support for the issues this could be game changer. (1) Dolnicar and Wollongong in Vogleson (2012)

  8. 1 A survey among relevant media where they can share with the organizers their views on activities which could be useful for them during the Forum (a first round could take place at Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum).

  9. 2 Creatingnetworksof engagedjournalistsfromthedifferentregions of theworld. • Preparingforthe 7WWF throughthecreation of specialised blogs • Host regular informational sessions with journalists to brief them around the world (breakfasts, monthly lunches, etc). • Negotiating media space to air news/video documentaries encouraging different views and alternative media

  10. 3 • A Water and Sanitation media forumduring 7 WWF where media can: • Get to know the current water and sanitation situation, main gaps, priorities in the international agenda, etc. • Interview relevant experts • Share with relevant organizations their needs and concerns when reporting on water and sanitation issues • Have different working sessions where they can report on a specific issue covered at the Forum. • Organize media field visits  

  11. 4 • A media toolkit on water and sanitation which will be included in the package for media where they can get • sources of information to report on water and sanitation issues, • List of experts at the Forum available for interviews, • Information on the different themes covered at the forum with an explanation of their importance, regional sheets, etc.

  12. 5 • A World Water Forum 7 water and sanitation media award where the best articles from the Forum could be awarded. This may also include a category where the best social media effort during the forum could be awarded.

  13. In Today´s world? • New media for new audiences • Use new technologies and new media to engage media (blogs) – in the forum and via webstream • What are the opportunities for new media for water? • Viral strategies • Social media
