  2. Grekanic language On Ancient ages South Italy was called Magna Grecia.For more than 1000 years Calabria was a big economical center because of the position( in the middle of Medditerannean sea). As a result greeks landed on Calabria on the second Ancient greek colonization because of the huge development. There a mixed from the Ancient greek language and Ancient Latin create grekanic.

  3. Today there are only 9 villages in Puglia and 5 villages in Calabria where Magna's Grecia Greeks live there and they speak their own greek idiom language ,grekanic.

  4. However grekanic is a very difficult language to learn and every day concerns are raising about the future of the Magna's Grecia Greeks in South Italy.The population in greek-speaking villages in South Italy like Puglia ,is always decreasing because young people are moving to North Italy in their effort to face poverty.

Greek goverment after a long period of indifference about Calabrian's greeks problems create the Institute of Greek-speaking Study (Istituto Studi Elefoni) , in a final effort to rescue the Greek language. “European office of the less using languages” made a research based on how many people are speaking grekanic in South Italy. The results showed that 12.000 people, in this area are speaking this greek idiom.

  6. Grekanic is schools In Calabria greek are used in kiddengartens, usually with initiative of parents of children. In High schools greek language is being taught as an exeptional study matter. Also there are organized lessons for the greek-speaking villages citizens in those who want to learn greek.

  7. Grekanic songs The father of grekanika music is Roberto Licci. He is dealing with grekanic songs almost 40 years. Licci himself believe that his work is a cultural bridge that connects Italy with Greece. He points out that the older ones speaking this idiom which is also the oldest linguistic idiom in Italy.

  8. Maria Faradouri Maria Faradouri is a greek singer that has sung a lot of grekanic songs like : • Bella Ciao • El paso del Ebro • La plegaria a un labrador

  9. George Dalaras George Dalaras is a greek international singer, in his music career has sung different kinds of music like grekanika, and here are some of them : • Kalinifta • Ghetonia • Agapimou fidela protini • Tarantela

  10. Savvina Giannatou • Savvina Gianatou is a very famous greek singer, compuser and musician.She has studied music styles like barok and jazz, but her biggest interest was on grekanic, there are some of her songs : • Orrio to fengo • Lu Purtuni& Pingluli Pinguli Giuvacchinu Lama Bada
