Disbursement of $tipend • 1st stipend by 31st August • Subsequently, 18th of each month • To get paid…. • Update Payment Bank Account and Payment Address via myISIS. • Only S’pore address and a/c no. • myISIS ≠ IVLE
Educational Allowance • Only starts on 1st Aug • Total is S$16,000 over 4 years • S$4,000 per financial year (April to March) • Book allowance capped at S$500 per financial year • Only books related to research area or coursework • Shipping and handling charges by online sources e.g. Amazon will NOT be borne by NGS
Educational Allowance • IT allowance capped at S$3,000 over four years • Buy at NUS IT Coop only

Educational Allowance • Conference allowance capped at S$4,000 per year • Reimbursement only allowed AFTER 1st Aug
Educational Allowance • Suggestions: • Buy IT stuff in 1st year • No poster or paper = no overseas conference funding* • For any receipts on IT and books claim by early Feb. • Plan properly! E.g. One conference in USA and one in Singapore within a year. • *General rule of thumb
Nomination of Research Supervisor • By the end of 6th month from the candidature start date • NGSS students: • Main supervisor under the NGS list • Co-supervisor optional • AGS students: • Main supervisor from NUS or Research Institutes (RI) • Please see “lab rotation” later
Nomination of Thesis Advisory Committee • Formed ≤ 3 months after nominating a supervisor • main supervisor plus 2 OR 3 additional members • Supervisor ≠ chair of TAC • Role of TAC: • Helps monitor your progress • Meets every sem with you • Conducts the Qualifying Exam
Coursework requirements • Minimum 30 MCs (~8 Modules) • Compulsory RCoRSE module (2 MCs) • Module list on NGS coursework portal • All modules read must be Level 5000 – 6000 • Levels 1000-4000 modules are undergraduate modules • Can only be read as “Audit”
Coursework requirements • S/U option • For mods outside your major • Not counted for CAP • Up to 12 MCs • Application to be done within the first month of the start of the module • Note • For NGS students’ PQE • ≥16 MCs (4 Mods) • ≥3.8 CAP • 1st attempt by 18th Month • 2nd attempt by 24th Month (if needed)
CAP Requirements and Policy • CAP requirement is ≥3.80 • Failure to meet requirement each sem: • Warning letter; • Educational Allowance suspended; • Reduction of stipend to faculty level; • Termination of Candidature
Module Registration • Register online before deadline • 2nd Aug online, by 12pm • 5th Aug Cross-Faculty Registration Form
Module Registration • 8th Aug • Results released • 19th Aug • Drop module deadline • 22nd Aug-25th Sept • Drop module with ‘W’ grade • 26th Sept • Drop module with ‘F’ grade
Module Registration • Some suggestions: • You can register for up to 4 mods • Note : Not all registration will be successful. • Try not to read >2 mods in one semester • If registration fails • Sit in/crash lectures • No access to course materials on IVLE prior to successful registration. • Speak to the mod coordinator for help
Transfer of credits • Case-by-case basis • Apply within first 6 months of enrolment • Final decision made by NGS
Undergraduate Teaching • Compulsory • Minimum 40 hrs • At least 20 for practical demonstrating/lecturing/ tutoring • Before starting • Application form • After • Feedback from supervisor and student(s) • Hrs clocked form • No MCs for teaching • Marking hours not counted as teaching hours
Lab Rotation • Highly recommended • Chance to try out different labs and projects • Different lab working styles • Rotation has to last for at least 2 months (2 MCs given)
Holiday Leave • NGSS students: • 21 working days • No half-day application • Unconsumed leave NOT carried forward • Apply online • AGS students • 10 working days • No half-day application • Unconsumed leave may be carried forward • Apply online, only if supervisors are from NUS • Otherwise, use hardcopy of Holiday Leave Form
Conference Leave • For NGSS students • Max 1 day before or 1 day after official conference date • Additional days Holiday leave • For AGS students • To seek AGA’s approval on conference funding matters • To apply conference leave through NGS
