This is some text taken from a university student who took on this challenge. He designed several types of structures, and published his results. We will take a look at his results at the end of this unit. Because of war and conflicts, many refugees have to survive in temporary winter shelters.

Your design team has been hired to design and build a prototype shelter for cold weather victims like those described above. You are required to conceptualize three ideas and show them as sketches. These do not need to have prices or too much information on materials. Your team will decide which one they want to use. You will create an actual scale model of the final prototype your team chooses. You will also make a list of materials, their costs, and why you chose them.
Along with your team, begin to look for some ideas. Make sure some one is in charge of recording websites you use in your research. Save all your notes! Save all your sketches! Listen to everyone's ideas! Don’t be afraid to imagine….remember the invention of Velcro was a result of biomimicry
This step is already done. Here are a few of the design constraints and criteria you will work with: The shelter has to provide warmth and light. The shelter must have good ventilation for fresh air. The shelter must hold up to high winds and heavy snow loads. The shelter must be made of light weight materials. The shelter must be collapsible and stackable for transportation purposes. The shelter must be reasonable in cost.
