You will need MS PowerPoint. • Objectives: • To raise awareness of sustainable ways of travelling and the effect of their travel choices. • To encourage investigation, comparing different activities using number and measure • Pupil Activity: • Design top trump cards for pupils using different modes of travel to get to school, for example: • Walk • Cycle • Bus • Car • Scooter • Walk part of the way • Helicopter • Ferry • Aeroplane • Can you think of any other modes of transport? Instructions continued Make sure your cards have a good design and our colourful and well presented. Put categories on the cards and award points for each different mode of travel. Consider the scoring carefully for each category. Some suggestions may be: o Journey time o Alertness after journey o Energy required o Sociability o Independence o Environmentally friendly NB: If you use this PowerPoint presentation to create your cards you will not be able to change the categories, but if you are not using this presentation you will be able to. Try this Extension Activity Create a graph comparing each of the six areas for all of your chosen modes of transport, e.g. a bar chart of the most environmentally friendly ways to travel, using the scores you have given. When should we hand in our work? This homework project should be brought in to school by Wednesday 14th December What will we do with our work? During the last week of term we will compare your cards with your friends. Have you given the same ratings for different ways of travel? We will play against a friend. Train The nearest station to Ulcombe is in Headcorn approximately 3 miles away. This means that travel by train is not considered by anyone to be a good way of travelling to school.
