Agric Products for building crop Monitoring bulletin • Crop monitoring activities start with the assessment of SOS and continue throughout the season with the analysis of crop water requirement satisfaction, available soil moisture crop performance. • Start of season is a leading indicator for food security monitoring.
Agric Products for building crop Monitoring bulletin • Analysis of the status of the vegetation is done mostly with NDVI data. • Anomaly maps (rainfall and NDVI) are used to detect areas that are not performing very well as well as good areas. • The anomaly maps may be used to declare a zone at “at risk”. • This gives basis for decision makers to focus their attention to the affected areas by closely monitoring not only rainfall conditions but also socio-economic activities and for taking adequate measures to prevent famine.

Agric Products for building crop Monitoring bulletin Cumulative rainfall graphs from the beginning of the season are sometimes used These maps and graphs are commented to evaluate the potential effect of the rainfall on the crop performance as well as the potential cropyield at the end of the season
Example: AMESD-SADC Thema Agric Bulletin • The bulletin is meant to provide a quick overview of the vegetation condition over the SADC region. • Complementary to the SADC agromet bulletin generated by FANR. • The bulletin is purely based on the analysis of The agric service products. • The crop condition monitoring is mainly qualitative; comparing the profiles/ maps of current season with historical images as shown below
