Assessment, Intervention, &Treatment … • A toll free number is provided and is available to all immediate family members: 1-800-999-1196 • Calls answered 24 hours a day • Calls answered by qualified masters level mental health professionals • Callers can access phone line as often as needed with no restrictions – number of calls is unlimited
Our EAP Counselors provide … • Assessment of issue • A brief telephone crisis intervention • Consultation • Referral to other resources if deemed necessary and appropriate
There are 2 types of EAP Calls: • Voluntary calls: Made by the employee or family member to seek help for difficult or challenging situations • Mandatory calls: Employer makes the employee contact the EAP as a result of a documented problem related to poor job performance by the employee or a positive drug or alcohol test result for the employee. The employee is required to contact the EAP as a condition of their continued employment.
As a supervisor, how do you know when to make a mandatory referral to the EAP? • Behavior/symptom checklist • Severity of the problem • Are employee’s safety at risk? • Is company property at risk? • When there is more at risk, you will want to make it a mandatory referral. • In some situations you may want to call Law Enforcement
Behavior/Symptom Checklist • Absenteeism • Patterns of tardiness (arriving late, leaving early, taking long lunches) • Conflicts with co-workers • Increased accidents • Decreased production • Checklist for reasonable cause signs and symptoms (handout-available for copies) • Document occurrences/patterns
Mandatory Referral Process … • Meet with employee to discuss the situation • Inform the employee of the job performance and behavioral issues that have been observed and documented. DO NOT diagnose, just talk about behaviors observed. • Together with the employee, complete and sign the mandatory referral form and the release of information form (handout-available for copies), and FAX both forms to the EAP at 785-232-5172. • DER, please call the EAP at 1-800-996-1196to inform them that the paperwork is being faxed. • The employee is required to call the EAP within 48 hours of signing the paperwork. • The EAP will report provider appointment date and time to DER. • The EAP will report employee’s attendance or non-attendance at first appointment to DER. • Further communication regarding the employee’s progress will take place between the provider and the DER.
In-Coming Call Sequence … • Employee, spouse and/or dependent calls 1-800-999-1196 • Professional answers the call and the discussion of the caller’s problem or issue is addressed. • Master clinician will determine if a FTF (Face To Face) visit is needed: • If YES…Counselor reviews caller’s needs then makes a referral to a provider in the caller’s area. If after normal business hours, the referral will be made the next business day. The provider will call the employee to schedule an appointment. • Client pursues treatment referral. • If NO FTF is required, Professional provides phone counseling to defuse situation in meeting the needs of the caller. • Professional invites caller to access the 800 number again if necessary to resolve the issue. • Only the employee may reveal his or her treatment.
EAP Eligibility? The EAP provides: • Face to Face visits for employee and or family member annually • Unlimited number of phone calls to the 24/7/365 Call Center Family members include: • Spouse • Children living under your financial care • Includes college students living away from home
Total Confidentiality Reporting • Confidentiality is the cornerstone for any effective Employee Assistance Program. • Employee has the right to seek assistance and to know their problems will be kept in strict confidence • Only the employee may reveal his or her treatment • For voluntary contacts to the EAP, no information will be shared with the DER. For mandatory referrals to the EAP, basic information about the referral will be shared with the DER. Total Program Confidentiality Always!
