Proper and Common Nouns • Proper nouns are specific. • Proper nouns are always capitalized. • Common nouns are general.
Singular, Plural & Possessive Nouns Singular Nouns = Just one. Ex. dog, Gloria, marker Plural Nouns = More than one. Ex. cars, sweaters, kids Possessive Nouns = Show ownership, have an apostrophe and “s”, unless word ends in “Z” sound. In that case an apostrophe is simply added at the end. Ex. Gloria’s, child’s, students’
Concrete or Abstract Concrete Noun: a person, place, or thing that occupies the physical world. It is tangible, which means you should be able to physically touch it. Ex. television, child, couch Abstract Noun: an idea. It is a nonphysical thing; therefore you cannot touch it. Ex. justice, peace, strength, theory of evolution
In Summary Nouns are people, places, things or ideas. AND Nouns can be either common or proper. Nouns can be either singular, plural or possessive. Nouns can be either concrete or abstract.
