Introduction • The department of marketing and management is one of the two department’s which make up School of Business in CoBAMS. • Its headed by the chair who report to the dean. • As a unit in the college, it directly supports the strategic plan of the college by implementing the derivative plans.
Introduction cont’d • The department give support to the college and the university through teaching, research and community work. • Its directed by the college strategic plan. • The Strategic Plan aims to turn the new College into a “centre of excellence” that enhances learning and teaching experience to produce graduates with problem-solving skills and reflective ability.
Introduction cont’d • The strategic direction includes a vision, is similar to that of the University – “To be a leading institution of academic excellence and innovations in Africa”, a mission – “To produce high calibre professionals and promote research and knowledge transfer in management sciences for informed policy, decision-making and sustainable development”,
Introduction cont’d • and a set of core values essential to guide the conduct and behaviour of staff and decision-making, and to inspire and galvanize individual efforts towards improved performance. Core values; • Integrity. • Teamwork. • Transparency and accountability. • Professional ethics. • Passion for quality services, social responsibility, and respect for others.
Departmental activities • Teaching • Marking and grading • Research and publications • Examination and tests • Invigilation of exams and tests • Handling students complaints including but not limited to; missing marks, remarking etc.
Challenges • High lecturer-student ratio • Inadequate teaching space • Limited multimedia e.g. projectors, white boards • under staffed • Lack of interface with the community
Code of conduct • Respect for other • Good customer care for our clients • Dressing smartly [professionally] • No marital relationship with students • Abide to the rules and regulations • Team work • Timeliness • Commitment to our work
