What is a verb? A verb is a part of speech that conveys action or a state of being. Words like jump, talk, live, and see are all verbs. Ex: He loves running.
Two Kinds of Verbs • An intransitive verb is a verb with only a subject, but no object. • Examples: • I fall. • He is quiet. • She left. • A transitive verb is a verb with a subject and a direct object. • Examples: • He walked home. • She ate cereal. • I waste time.
The Three Deadly Tenses • To describe an action that already happened, one must speak with past tense (We layed on the grass.) • An action that goes on as one speaks would be recorded in present tense (I blame him for my own shortcomings.) • Finally, an action that most likely will happen is recorded in future tense (He will be back after the storm.)
Conclusion Whether you lived, are living, or will live, motion and any state of being are nothing without verbs. Remember, it’s what you do.
