National Education Policy Proposed Actions • ECE age group shall be recognized as comprising 3 to 5 years. • Provision of ECE shall be attached to primary schools which shall be provided with additional budget, teachers and assistants for this purpose. • For ECE teachers, a two-year specialized training in dealing with young children shall be a necessary requirement. This training shall be on the basis of the revised ECE National Curriculum. • The curriculum and support material for ECE shall take account of the cultural diversity of particular areas.

NUMBERS!!! • Total Enrolment in pre-primary is 8.5 million (44% girls) DROPOUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Good Story • Punjab province has initiated early childhood centers in selected schools and has allocated resources for ECE • Training of ECE in pre-service is being prioritized • Pilots across the country with very good lessons have built capacity of government officials and teachers in all 4 major provinces
