DodgingBeyond Just Dodgeball All dodgeball activities have been eliminated from the development of dodging skills. • Throwing balls at other humans does not transfer to other sports. • Safety (Injury May Result) • Legal (Banned in Some States) • Psychologically, throwing balls at other humans supports violence. REMEMBER: Physical Education is for ALL students, not just the skilled.

  3. Dodging(Definition) The skill of quickly moving the body in a direction other than the original line of movement. This includes any maneuver a person uses to avoid being touched by a chasing person.

  4. Dodging FleeingStationary Effective dodging actions include:QUICK FAKES, TWISTING, and STRETCHING

Levels of Skill Proficiency(taught after space awareness and traveling) • Precontrol • When a signal is given, quickly performing a designated dodging maneuver. • Control • Trying to run across a field while dodging one or more chasers. • Utilization • One group tries to dodge an opposing group while controlling an object (football, Frisbee, etc.). • Proficiency • A soccer player dribbles a ball past a defender by faking one way and traveling quickly in the opposite direction.

  6. Importance of Dodging Many consider dodging a utilization and proficiency level of traveling along with tactical skills with other skill themes. Ability to dodge may be the difference in winning a championship. Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity. Use dodging activities to participate in physical activity.
