What is Dodging And Burning? • Dodging is a tool which decreases the exposure of an image. - Lightening • Burning does the opposite, it increases the exposure of an image. – Darkening • ORIGINAL PICTURE DODGED AND BURNED PICTURE
When Do I Use Dodging And Burning? • You use dodging when you want to add more light to a certain area of an image. Like say, to direct the viewer’s attention toward that certain area on the image • You use burning for adding more darkness to a certain area of an image. Burning makes the dodge stand out more on the image. • You may also want to use dodging and burning when you wish to add more light and shadow.
How do I use dodging and burning? / What Do all the options do? • Use the dodge and burn tool in programs such as GIMP. Select the brush and the size you want it to be, depending on your image. • To toggle dodge and/or burn, press CTRL, or change it with the mouse. • Range • Shadows – effects the darker parts of the picture more than the others • Midtones – effects mainly the entire picture • Highlights – effects the brighter parts of the image
