CLINICAL MANIFESTATION • Generalized tetanus • Most common form • Increased muscle tone and generalized spasms • Initially presents with lockjaw or increased tone in the masseter muscles • Progresses to dysphagia, stiffness or pain in the neck, shoulder, and back muscles • Hands and feet are spared • Constant threat of reduced ventilation or laryngospasm LOPEZ, CAMILLE CECILIA
CLINICAL MANIFESTATION • Neonatal tetanus • Children born to inadequately immunized mothers • Poor feeding, rigidity, spasms • Fatal if untreated • Local tetanus • Uncommon; restricted to muscles around wound • Celphalic tetanus • Rare form that proceeds an ear infection or head injury • Dysfuntion of 7th CN • High mortality LOPEZ, CAMILLE CECILIA
