  1. Who we are • Company Overview • Parent Company – Mechatronics, Inc. • Privately owned • Started by 2 brothers – reps selling to Boeing • 4 Operating Groups – 2 Mechanical, 2 Electrical • Silverthin Only manufacturing group • National Precision Bearing (NPB) Distributor • (miniatures, aerospace, assemblies, clean room, rod ends, spherical plain) • Mechatronics Fan Group AC / DC cooling fans • Mechatronics Rep Group  Flex circuits, thermal products, connectors • All operating groups are ISO9001:2000 Registered

  2. Preston, Washington We’ve Moved! (No longer in Rancho Cucamonga, California)

  3. Slewing Bearings • Overview – What is a Slewing Bearing? • Slewing bearings are machine elements which absorb axial and radial forces as well as the resulting • tilting moments in a single self-retaining and ready-to-install bearing unit. Their low profile, ratio of • weight to load capacity, open centers, and the option of including gearing make slewing bearings ideal • structural components. • A bearing connects two adjacent structures and allows rotation and transmission of load between • them. A slewing bearing also includes mounting holes for easy attachment to the structures as well • as something to facilitate the mechanical rotation of one ring / structure relative to the other (i.e. • gear). • Take axial, radial, and moment loads – especially good for high moment loads • Mount to separate m/c elements that rotate in opposite directions or different speeds • Have through or threaded holes and optional flanges for mounting • Often have gear teeth on the inner or outer ring for driving the bearing / structure

  4. Slewing Bearings • Types of Slewing Bearings • Four-Point Contact Ball (Flanged) • Flanged cross-section on non-geared rings • Four-Point Contact Ball (Rectangular cross-section) • KH Series are preloaded with precision runouts • Four-Point Contact Ball (High Capacity) • More capacity potential than RK & MT Series due to size • Eight-Point Contact Ball • Two matched rows of four-point balls • Potentially 80% more capacity than four-point of similar diameter • Cross Roller (Higher loads and stiffness) • Single row of rollers having alternating orientation • Greater stiffness and dynamic capacity than a four-point contact bearing • Three-Row Roller (Extra heavy duty applications) • Three independent rows of rollers, oriented for optimal performance • Greatest stiffness and capacity for a given diameter

  5. Slewing Bearings • Types of Slewing Bearings

  6. Slewing Bearings • Options • Gears – internal / external • Seals – single or double • Preload or clearance • Lubrication holes / grease fittings • Locating or stopper holes + pins • Other features (i.e. v-groove for belt drive) • Slewing bearings are produced in smaller lots and machined in discreet steps. This makes customization fairly straightforward.

  7. Slewing Bearings • Design Features + Load Ratings • Spacers typically plastic + sometimes smaller balls used to separate rolling elements • Bearing races and gear teeth are induction hardened – not through hardened • Lube holes / grease fittings on either ring depending on where lube is supplied • Mounting of slewing bearings is critical and mounting surfaces need to be machined accurately for proper function of the bearing • Load Ratings • Turntable bearings are required to transmit static or high loads at low speed • The operation is intermittent and the fatigue life of the bearing is less of a concern than the bearings ability to absorb static and infrequent loading cycles. • Bearing selection is tied to a load rating chart and an appropriate service factor.

  8. Where to sell • Where do you find Slewing Ring Bearings? • Commercial, Military / Government

  9. Where to sell • Where can IDC Owners be successful? • OEM – Small + mid size • Local support • Competitive Pricing + Delivery • MRO – replacement business • Most of the OEM applications will have MRO opportunities • Large OEM – lowest priority • Potential obstacles – pricing, Eng relationships • Nothing is off limits…but best targets are: • 4 types of bearings in the brochure – single row ball, cross roller • 6’ diameter and less • Lighter / general industrial applications

  10. Value Add • Why Silverthin? • Customer Service • Speed + Quality of Responses • Quotes with prints in 24 to 48 hours • Competitive Pricing • Delivery • 2 to 4 week advantage • Some Inventory – will grow in the future • Flexibility • Custom / Specials • Small minimums

  11. Marketplace Pricing Case by case – not loaded into system Very competitive with Slewing Bearing suppliers Kaydon, Rotek, RBC (Approx. 15% to 25% advantage) What about Competitive Situations?  Give us a target (Bearing Spec, samples if possible)

  12. Marketplace Marketing Brochure complete (post on web) • Working on: • Web content • Ad / Mailer

  13. Marketing • Current contract with Global Spec • Approx 1,900,000 engineers and technical buyers • Page banner running on under 3 different bearing categories • 25 published product announcements available • Thomas Register • Machine Design • NASA Tech Briefs • Industrial Market Place • Silverthin Dragster (www.highspeedmotorsports.com) • E-Newsletters start 2010
