NCCCP Communications Team • Centralize communications efforts for the NCCCP, and provide communications counsel to sites during the 3-year pilot. • Team will manage communications and coordinate activities across the Institute and with the sites. • Team led by NCI Office of Communications & Education (OCE) and SAIC-Frederick, Inc. Public Affairs Office. • Members: Frank Blanchard (SAIC-Frederick), Sabrina Islam-Rahman (OCE), LaTonya Kittles (OCE), Nancy Murphy (OCE Consultant), Nichelle Scott (OCE)

Our Communications Approach Communications Goal: • Increase awareness and understanding of the NCCCP among target audiences Communications Objectives: • Support NCI’s efforts to communicate benefits of NCCCP • Support pilot sites’ efforts to communicate benefits of • Overcoming healthcare disparities • Clinical trials • Biospecimen collection • Electronic medical records

  4. Our Communications Approach Three Phases • Phase 1: Pre-launch (March – June 13, 2007) • Phase 2: Launch (June 14, 2007) • Phase 3: Post-launch (following launch through pilot completion)

Target Audiences Pre-launch • Individuals and groups involved in pilot development • Cancer research, advocate, and policy communities; NCI Cancer Centers, NCI advisory boards, NCI Divisions and Offices, etc. Launch and Post-launch • The communities selected for pilot participation • Cancer patients, healthcare leaders, hospital staff, civic leaders, fraternal groups, advocacy groups, local universities, etc.

  6. Phase 1: Pre-Launch Communications • Materials development and communications planning • Materials: • News releases • Fact sheet • US Map • Web site: <ncccp.cancer.gov> • PowerPoint presentation • Logo • Brochure • Letters to Congressional offices

Phase 2: Launch Communications Media support for pilot sites: • National news release from NCI Office of Media Relations • Coordinate same-day announcements by all sites • Provide release materials to pilot sites • Make available NCI spokesperson, as necessary • Provide information and materials on NCI

Phase 3: Post-Launch Communications Local outreach assistance to sites: • Provide communications counsel to pilot sites as needed • Conduct needs-assessments survey with pilot sites • Coordinate with pilot sites to support program goals • Provide guidance to pilot sites on how to access NCI resources Materials: • Needs-assessment survey will result in customized electronic toolkits to support pilot sites to achieve program goals.
