Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library (BHML) Mission Statement “The mission of the Saline County Library is to serve the citizens of Saline County by providing materials, technology, and programs that educate, connect, and entertain.” (“Saline County Library,” 2011, Serve section) Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library, September 10, 2011.

Children’s and Young Adult The Young Adult department includes a reading corner designed to encourage students to communicate, read, and study together. According to the U.S. Census Bureau Quick Facts website (2011), 24% of theSaline County population is under the age of 18. The BHML strives to maintain a strong youth program and Children’s department to meet the needs of its younger patrons. • Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library, September 10, 2011. The Young Adult department hosts monthly activities such as themed parties, games, and contests. The Children’s department provides ongoing activities such as multiple Storytime readings for different ages, movie days, crafts, and puppet shows. Both departments provide an extensive summer program that includes educational presentations, interactive activities, reading logs, prizes, games, and, when available, author signings.
Sheridan Middle School (SMS) Library and Media Center • Sheridan Middle School, taken September 9, 2011. Mission Statement “The Sheridan School Library Media Specialist will work with teachers and students to provide a variety of materials which will support the curriculum of the school, and foster lifetime habits of reading, learning, good citizenship, and productive use of leisure time.” (“Sheridan Middle School”, 2011, Library and Media Center section, para. 1)
Collection and Services • SMS Library and Media Center, taken September 9, 2011. According to the SMS librarian (2011), The SMS Library and Media Center has a total of 11,232 titles available for use. The SMS Library and Media Center includes a computer lab section that provides Internet access, word processing software, and printing services.
Patrons Patrons of the SMS Library and Media Center includes 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, teachers, administrators, parents, and other librarians from the Sheridan School District. As of September 2011, the SMS Library and Media Center serves 1,002 patrons. Students can return and check-out books every day school is in session from 7:50 a.m. until 3:45 p.m. (“Sherican Middle School,” 2011, Library and Media Center section, para. 3)
Patron students include those who are considered socio-economically disadvantaged, students who are Gifted and Talented, and students with learning disabilities.
