  4. Where? • East Flanders, Belgium • Has a lot of parishes like:Nieuwkerken, Belsele, Sinaai, Stekene, Sint-Gillis-Waas,… Thalia Verdesseldonck - Kathleen Van Mele 6ST

  5. How? • Became a city in 1217 • A count of Flandersowned Sint-Niklaas • In 1241, the city was promoted to ‘capital city’ of the Waasland Thalia Verdesseldonck - Kathleen Van Mele 6ST

  6. The Big Fire • On the 25th of May 1690 • Started in the gin distillery • Burned down the wholecity along with the church and its tower Thalia Verdesseldonck - Kathleen Van Mele 6ST
