  2. Metabolism • Chemical reactions in the body. • Convert food and water into energy and waste products.

  3. Reproduce • create offspring • Asexual or sexual

  4. Cells – smallest unit of life. • Multicellular – plants and animals are made of many cells! • Single celled organisms are made of only one cell!

  5. Homeostasis • Organisms need to maintain an internal balance • Not enough water = dehydrated • Too much water = water poisoning

  6. Response to Environment • Stimulus  Response • Ex. It’s cold outside (stimulus), so you start to shiver (response) • Organisms evolve to survive in the environment

  7. Obtain and use energy • Plants absorb suns energy • Animals consume nutrients

  8. Grow and develop • All living things have a life cycle – birth to adult

  9. Excrete waste • Get rid of waste • Animal waste - #1, #2, CO2, sweat (salt), heat

  10. Respiration • Exchanging gases with the atmosphere (to create energy)
