SESAME • Definition phase: • First slice of TEN-T funding approved ( € 14m); balance ( € 16m) to be provided in 2006 • Air Traffic Alliance only bidder • Eurocontrol contract process nearing completion • Schedule of work agreed with various stakeholder groups • Work expected to start in October

SESAME • Implementation phase: • Cost Benefit study undertaken by Steer Davis Gleave • Governance and funding arrangements critical to overall success of project • Commission expected to propose a Joint Venture as mechanism to oversee implementation phase • Communication expected September / October

SES Implementation • National Supervisory Authority • CAA has been nominated as the NSA for the UK • Work ongoing to establish the process for the certification of ANSPs • Functional Airspace Blocks • NATS / IAA initiative • Feasibility study by Solar Alliance • EC Directive on a Community Air Traffic Control Licence • Political agreement reached at June Transport Council • Awaiting formal agreement of European Parliament

Eurocontrol • Future Strategy • Work ongoing in Enhanced Presidents Bureau to define the future Agency Strategy • Need to build a consensus on the future shape of European ATM • David McMillan will be meeting stakeholders in September / October to seek their views • Report expected at November PC
