  4. Rowan Alert • Register for Rowan Alert • Go to http://www.rowan.edu/safety • Click on Emergency Preparedness • Click on Rowan Alert and follow the registration instructions • You will be able to identify up to 18 points of contact

  5. Employ Common Sense • Walk in groups when going to or from events • Stay on sidewalks – avoid dark or isolated areas • Trust your instincts – if you feel something is wrong, act accordingly • Protect your personal belongings – Theft of unattended property is the number one preventable criminal act on campus

  6. Report Suspicious Activity • Report suspicious persons or activities by calling Public Safety at extension 4922 or856-256-4922.Emergency? Dial 9-1-1

  7. Health Awareness • You can substantially decrease yourchances of victimization by remainingsober – avoid being impaired • If you plan to drink designate someone in your group to stay sober • Set up a signal with friends to alert them that you need assistance

  8. Emergency Communications • “Call 24” emergency telephones – 92 total • 911 can be dialed directly fromany campus phone • Detailed maps added to county 911 system

  9. Shuttle/Walking Escort Service • The service operates from 7:00 pm to 3:00 am during the academic year • One campus location to another campus location • Shuttle Service has a designated route • Dial 856-256-4922 for Walking Escort

It’s in Your Interest • Make it your responsibility to report unsafe conditions – examples: lights out, emergency phone malfunctions, or exposed wires • Don’t assume someone else will report it • Read all messages from Public Safety • This is your campus – protect yourself and your fellow students

The Facts… • Depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders, insomnia and ADHD are common on college campuses • 50% of all college students reported that at one time, they felt so depressed they had trouble functioning • 15% met the criteria for Major Depression • 20% of college students were diagnosed or treated for a mental disorder in the previous 12 months • Most common symptoms were depression and anxiety – twice as common in women than men
