  3. Description • What can you learn from the title of the artwork? -That it’s going to be a painting of himself 2. What subjects in the artwork can you recognize? - I see there is a lot of emphasis in this piece because the places where I see where I see the lighter and darker balance. 3.Looking at the elements of design, describe what qualities you see: -Value is a key element in this piece, because on the right side of the painting it demonstrates a more darker green, the middle demonstrates a slightly lighter green, and finally on the left side of the painting represents the lightest green. -line -shape -color -value -form -texture -space 4. What media and techniques did the artist use? • He was blending paint.

  4. Analysis • Emphasis: I am highly attracted to the glare like focal point which is demonstrated on left side on the painting because it sort of gives the painting a lighter value. • Balance: This piece is very well balanced because it evens out the lighter and darker. • Proportion: The portion is very ideal because all the colors blend together and it makes everything look natural. • Pattern: I see a dark, light , and lightest sort of pattern around the face area. • Rhythm or Movement: I see a very smooth rhythm around the mid-face area because I see certain strokes and movements. • Unity and variety: The slight glare on the left side of the face and the darkest half of the face on right.

  5. Interpretation • Is there symbolism in the artwork? What do you think it means? Yes I do think there is symbolism. Symbolism means that the artwork represents something like there is a greater purpose to it. • What feeling do you think the artist wanted to give the viewer when looking at the work? I think the artwork gives a more laid back feeling • Does the work remind you of other things you have experienced? No • How does the work relate to other ideas or events in the world and/or in your other classes? It does not really.

  6. Judgment • What parts of the work make you feel it is a success or failure? In my opinion the artwork over all is a success. • What criteria (think of the style of the work) can you list to help others judge this work? The patterns in the artwork and makes everything blend together. • How unique is the work? Why do you feel this work is or isn’t unique? I feel that the artwork is very unique and everything stands out. • What are some improvements you feel the artist could have made to the work? I feel nothing needs to be improved.
