FMLY 4300 - Field Experience WHAT ARE THE DETAILS OF THE COURSE? • 6 credit hours. • 120 hours in the field. • Seminar s on Tuesdays from 4 to 5:15 • Two options: • First term only option – one full day a week at placement site. • Both terms option – half day a week at placement site.
FMLY 4300 - Field Experience WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN THE COURSE? • Facilitated sharing – a chance to lead and document in- class discussions. • Guest speakers and special sessions, for example, on privacy laws. • Field notes – self reflection on learning and progress at your placement site. • An on site project in cooperation with the supervisor. • Mid-term and Final evaluation by site supervisor.
FMLY 4300 - Field Experience WHERE WOULD I BE PLACED? • Students are from all options in Family Social Sciences. • Students are matched according to their option and individual interests. • A wide range of sites, including frontline activities, research activities, program delivery, program development and program evaluation. • Check the front page of the application form for a sampling of sites.
FMLY 4300 - Field Experience HOW DO I APPLY? • Applications due April 25, 2014. • Application form is available on the Family Social Sciences website. • You describe your goals for the field experience and express a preference of site. • You need to get two references. • Hand in your application to the Family Social Sciences Office, Room 204, Human Ecology. • Attend an orientation meeting April 9, 2014, at 3:00pm. • Students visit sites over the spring and summer (before the course begins).
