The IWMD has now been established as a memorial day to remind ourselves of absent work colleagues who suffered the ultimate price of an accident at work. That precious life lost is too high a price to remind ourselves of the paramount importance of Health and Safety. Today we welcome from one of the UK biggest unions to speak on behalf of the trade union movement UNISON whose membership lead in the Health and Safety of workers in the Public Sector and Private Sector and without their work and representation many more lives would have been lost in workplaces across Britain. Many lives are still being lost needlessly and while the country faces a recession and cutbacks in jobs , wages and conditions the one place we cannot afford to cut is the Health and Safety in any workplace no matter how large or small a workplace is the price of life has more value than any cost related to the budget. Once again we thank you all for coming today, I hope that you do take time out to remember your loved one, workmate or friend, and learn from their lives to help others.
