  2. Definition of a Crystal A crystal or crystalline solid is a solid material, whose constituent atoms, molecules, or ions are arranged in an orderly repeating pattern extending in all three spatial dimensions. The scientific study of crystals and crystal formation is crystallography

  3. Definition of a Unit Cell For any given lattice, a unit cell can be defined as the smallest portion of the lattice that can be repeated indefinitely to form it. A lattice is defined as a pattern that repeats a motif by repeated translations through an interval t.
