Family Life • Parents got divorced and his mom left him • He suffered from low self esteem and was very shy • Being abandoned by his mother left him with feelings of loss and rejection • After he graduated from high school his was left home alone
Early Life • As a kid he impaled heads of animals on stakes in his front yard • He would strip their meat with acid and had necrophilia desires • His neighbor molested him
The Beginning… • In 1978 he committed his first murder at the age of 18 • He picked up a hitchhiker and killed him with a barbell at his home • He smashed his bones with a hammer because “he didn’t want him to leave” • It would be nine years before he killed again
How He Killed • He would go to gay bars to pick up his victims • He would drug his victims into a deep sleep with spiked drinks • Stab or strangle them • Have sex with their corpse • Cut their body to pieces with a hacksaw
How He Killed Cont. • Kept their heads and genitals as trophies • Freeze biceps and other muscles to eat later • Boiled rest of body with chemicals and acid • Sometimes performed lobotomies
His Victims • Most of his victims were minorities because he lived in an ethnic area • All were male • Killed 17 males from 1978-1991
How He Was Caught • One of his victims escaped with a handcuff on one hand • He led cops to Dahmer’s house • Police found pictures of bodies and other parts on fridge • Found one skull in the freezer and three in the fridge • Also found other skulls in his closet along with male genitalia preserved in formaldehyde
Trial • Dahmer admitted to all 17 murders • Blamed nobody but himself • Tried to plead insanity but the court rejected his appeal • He was killed in prison by an inmate • City of Milwaukee raised $400,000 to burn all of his possessions in 1996
