Hyperlinks • In Microsoft PowerPoint, a hyperlink is a connection from a slide to another slide, a custom show, a Web page, or a file. The hyperlink itself can be text or an object such as a picture, graph, shape, or WordArt. • In PowerPoint, hyperlinks become active when you run your presentation, not when you are creating it.
Hyperlink Choices • Existing file or Web Page • Place in This Document • Create a New Document • E-mail Address
Hyperlink steps • Highlight the text or material you want to hyperlink • Click on the Insert tab, Links group, Hyperlink • Choose the option you want to use.
Hyperlink Practice • Link to a Word document: Word • Link to a web site: Davis School District (Hint: http://www.davis.k12.ut.us) • Link to another slide in this presentation: Slide 6 • NOTE: Remember the links will work when you run the show. Test it out!

Action Buttons • An action button is a ready-made button that you can insert into your presentation and define hyperlinks. • Use action buttons when you want to include buttons with commonly understood symbols for going to the next, previous, first, and last slides. • PowerPoint also has action buttons for playing movies or sounds.
Action Buttons continued … Action buttons are most commonly used for when you are lecturing while showing the presentation or for individual study.
Action Buttons Steps • Click on Insert tab, Illustrations group, Shapes and select the appropriate button from the Action Buttons options. • Drag the mouse to create the button. • When Hyperlink to: comes up, select Slide… and select the slide you want. • If you want to add your own text, choose the blank action button.
