  2. The National Scenic Byways Program- a brief overview • Distinctive collection of roads that each embody one of six intrinsic qualities • Natural; historic; recreational; archeological; cultural; scenic • State and national designations • Non prescriptive • Grassroots program

  3. Working with Byway Groups • Byway groups are grassroots in nature- many different players. • Byway groups are encouraged to partner for their projects. • Byway groups can apply for National Scenic Byway’s grants, Transportation Enhancement Grants or other related federal funding sources

  4. Byway Projects • Corridor management plans • Interpretive media and facilities • Visitor capacity studies • Trails and pathways • Wayfinding • Marketing and promotional materials • Preservation efforts • Visitor facilities
