Today the buildings date from the 12th to 18th century. -The city of Edinburgh was the first city in the world with its own fire brigade, in 1824 -St Giles’ Cathedral was built in 1883 and was designed by an architect named William Hay -St Giles’ was founded in the 1120s when the Scottish royal family Margaret and King Malcolm Canmore made strenuous efforts to spread Catholic Christian worship throughout the Scottish lowlands
