  1. Friday 14th September 2012 Intodayslesson we were introduced to our new coursework. We looked at the DIDA Wildcare project. I then made a new folder to help me keep all of my coursework organised and so I can find things easily when looking for them.

  2. Wednesday 19th September 2012 Intodayslesson we begun a to make a mind map of our ideas for each bit of the project. By doing this you could easily se what needed to be done in each section. I also included start dates to check that I was getting my work done on the time I had planned on. I used the mind map software because I find it easy to read and can see what I need to do quickly if I am behind in my work. Below is my finished mind map; of ideas and things I would like to include in my coursework for this year. I have also included my ideas of what I could add onto the coursework that is set in place.

  3. Friday 28th September 2012 I used the DIDA Wild Care website so that I could write each task and sub-task so that I have a logical order of how to do things. This helped me to start each task as it gave me a list of everything that needed to be covered in order to get full marks on that piece of work. In today’s lesson I started to create my initial plan. I decided on how many lessons each task would take me and then once I had decided on this I entered in the start dates and end dates and then decided whether I would do the task at school or at home.

  4. Wednesday 3rd October 2012 I copied my initial plan and then renamed it on-going plan, just as the website had said. This was so that throughout the project I was able to see when my deadlines and then I could see what I needed to do to get an even better grade at GCSE. In todays lesson I started to create my on-going plan.

  5. Friday 12th October 2012 In todays lesson I used Microsoft Database to start to create a database which would be able to store details of endangered species. Once I had opened the document I entered in the correct field names as provide by the website: I used a basic template to make my database so it was simple, quick and efficient.

  6. Wednesday 17th October 2012 1. I clicked on Form Wizard. 4. I then chose how I wanted my form to look like. You have 4 options to choose from. 2. Then You get this screen. 3. Then I clicked on the double arrow so all my data was moved across. 5. Then I clicked finish.

  7. Friday 26th October 2012 Half term.

  8. Wednesday 7th November 2012 In todays lesson we carried on with our databases. We had to make a data entry form and so this is how I did it. Then click next. Click on Form Wizard. Click on the double arrow so all your data is moved across. Choose how you want it to look, you have 4 options. Then click finish.

  9. Continued I changed the field sizes as we don’t need that much space so it would just be wasted. For some of the field names like ‘Group’ and threat’ I did look up wizard for these 3 field names because each one contains certain pieces of data and so a drop down box will come up and the right text will be selected.

  10. When I click on the lookup wizard I press ‘I will type in the values that I want’ which will let me choose what I want to do in each box, making the data easier to do.

  11. Then I typed it the data that I will put into the drop down box. I then labelled what I wanted for my lookup field.

  12. I then did a validation rule which would not allow the candidate to type in anything they wanted, so this would keep my database organised. The validation text shows that what the person is writing is wrong and so a message should come up to guide them.

  13. The field name is ‘Name of species’ and the relevant data type is ‘text’. I changed the field size from 255 to 45 because then we would have excess space that doesn’t need to be there and so it is wasting space, by reducing it there wont be a lot of data.

  14. I reduced the field size to 25 because I know that the data will only be something like bird/insect or Mammal or fish or reptile/amphibian so 25 would be plenty as otherwise again you are wasting space. The field name is ‘Group’ and the relevant data type is text The validation rule is there to only let people insert the correct data.

  15. Importing my data

  16. Data entry form I have added my 3 different species into my data To create my buttons I clicked on ‘Create’ and then clicked on the button shaped and then I created a button for saved records and add records and quit app. These three buttons are at the bottom of my data type form so they are clear and easy for the user to see.

  17. Friday 16th November 2012 In todays lesson I continued to make my data entry form. I started to edit it and started to play around with it to show that I know what I can do using this software. 1. This is what my entry form looked like before any editing was done to it. This was also before I worked out how to change my field names but after peer assessment my partner pointed out that I needed to change them.

  18. Continued… 2. After my assessment I see what I needed to change. I have changed the field names. I made buttons so for when people need to add their own species in here everything is easy to see and is really easy to use.

  19. Continued… 3. This is my first new species. It shows that I am using each new field and that I can use the given codes to do my new form.

  20. Continued… 4. This is my new data entry form again. It is the same layout and it shows again that I know what I am doing.

  21. Wednesday 21st November 2012 No lesson- PSE all day.

  22. Friday 30th November 2012 In todays lesson I changed the look of my new records. I changed the font, colour and images to make it look more creative and to show that I had the skills to do this. I changed the colours because I wanted it to fit my colour scheme to show that my work is flowing easily. From this to this

  23. These are my final 3 new records

  24. This is the table I made so when the candidate was filling in the data entry form, they could see the codes that would only work with my database.

  25. Wednesday 5th December 2012 Work Experience week

  26. Friday 14th December 2012 In todays lesson we worked on our project log which gave me time to add in all of my print screens and to check that I had everything on the criteria in my project log. I then handed my up to date project log in to be marked over the Christmas break.

  27. Wednesday 19th December 2012 In todays lesson we started making a Cash flow forecast. We went through it step by step as a class and then we started making our own ones. We had a template we could work with but had to use all of our own formulas to add all of the totals in for us. This took a whole double lesson to complete and we still haven’t completely finished them.

  28. Half Term

  29. Friday 11th January 2012 • In todays lesson we were finishing off our cash flow charts and making sure that we used the colours that we have really used the whole way through. I want my work to look very similar so hopefully it does. On the next slide there will be print screens of my final cash flow chart.

  30. How I did it SUMS To get the total of each section I typed in ‘=‘ then clicked on the cells I wanted to add together with a ‘*’ in-between. Then I pressed enter and that have me my answer. Then to save time, you can just drag the corners and the totals will just appear automatically like this.

  31. DATA This is where I got my data from. By looking at this I could see what I needed to include and also certain tables only had data for months that needed the data in them. For example; ‘OUTGOINGS PER MONTH’- where the rent should only be paid in in January, April, July and October. When you want to import this data, you would press’=‘ and then highlight the data you want and then when you click enter it will automatically move across to the allocated cells.

  32. Research grants (Jan only) To do this row of cells I had to look at the ‘Research grants’ row of date on the other page. I then pressed ‘=‘ in the cell where I wanted the data to go and then click on the piece of data I wanted to go into that cell and then once it was highlighted with moving lines around it I could press enter and then it would appear in the January section. I had to be careful that I only put it in the January section as that is the month it asks the data for as that is the only piece of data we have for that row.

  33. Adoptions (monthly) To do this row in the table I had to look at the ‘Adoptions’ column in my table of data and pressed ‘=‘ then clicked on the adoption row and pressed enter. I then got all my totals. I did Absolute Cell referencing here. To do this press ‘=‘, go on datasheet, click relevant and press F4 this then allows it to copy the data into each cell and without the value being £0.00. This saved me time and allowed me to show another skill for the Cash Flow chart.

  34. Total Income

  35. RENT OUTGOINGS PER MONTH’- where the rent should only be paid in in January, April, July and October. When you want to import this data, you would press’=‘ and then highlight the data you want and then when you click enter it will automatically move across to the allocated cells. Then make sure that you are only putting rent in the correct month because it is only paid on certain months. Then then repeat this for each month to save time.

  36. In todays lesson we made a sources table full of membership research.

  37. Wednesday 15th January 2013 In todays lesson we made our membership cards. This is where I started with all my initial colours and themes. The colours I used were the ones I am hoping to stay with through out my project. I liked the fonts and colours and I think they will be appealing. I used publisher to create this because it is the best application to do so. It is double sided and so it will be able to fit into a wallet easily and wont take up a lot of space.

  38. In todays lesson we made our leaflets that would be given out to members. We had to fill out 6 sections where certain information had to be included. Information such at contact details and what the person would be helping with when they become a member. The Images I included are ones of the animals that you can adopt and so it becomes clear what animals you want to include.

  39. Friday 25th January 2013 • Today we made a sources table. This is my research table to show other organisations and the prices they charge for memberships. I looked at WWF, MARVELL WILDCARE AND ANIMAL AID.
