Information Technology • In 2012, the BYU IT program was designated a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Security by the NSA/DHS • The IT program currently has 10 emphases: 1) Cyber Security; 2) Databases; 3) Human-Computer Interaction; 4) Integrative Programming; 5) Mechatronics; 6) Mobile and Embedded Technologies; 7) Networking; 8) System Administration; 9) Web & Social Media; and 10) Web Systems • One of the lead IT research programs in the nation • Extremely high placement rate, as with other computing programs (98%), and with highly reputable companies and organizations • The average salary for an IT undergraduate is about $73,300 in Apr 2014

Students choose other languages based on desired focus. Many choose to become Software/Web/Mobile Developers/Engineers. Electrical & Computer Engineering • Graduates split ~50/50 between Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering programs • Strong combination of analytical and software skills • ~100% placement in industry, graduate schools, professional schools • Specialty areas: • Embedded systems design and programming • FPGA design and CAD • Computer architecture • Software development • Robotics, vision, and control • Real-time systems

  14. Digital Humanities (minor) Purposes: (1) Revisit humanities content by applying technology’s analytical strengths. (2) Solve modern problems by applying the humanities’ synthetic thinking methods. Outcomes: (1) Understand the implications of technology-mediated knowledge. (2) Display expertise in one or more technologies. (3) Apply technology skills to solve real problems and/or create new technology-based tools. Skills: Web publishing, print publishing, computational linguistics, software localization, corpus analysis, topic modeling, etc. Students: 55/45 split between humanities majors and others. Majors from every college but one (nursing).

Localization (New Program) Localization = Translation + AdaptationTechnical, Cultural & Linguistic Adaptation for International Markets The new localization program is still in development, but BYU graduates already permeate the localization industry and work in localization at these companies Localization combines skills in technology, culture, business, and language so graduates can fill roles as managers, engineers, and linguists Adapting various products for global markets:
