Highlights • eFutures – 358 members across 55 institutions • Academic community events • #1 Herman Hauser; Enrico Sangiorgi; break-outs: links to industry / Europe; future grand challenges • #2 EPSRC shaping electronics capability; ESCO; eFuturesXD; breakouts: future research/ engagement with industry /infrastructure; Leon Chua • Building Bridges to Build Brains • Computer Science Grand Challenge "Architecture of Brain and Mind" group, • Microelectronics Design Grand Challenge "Building Brains" group, and • INCF - International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility

Highlights • eFutures Beyond Moore’s Law – Royal Society (Carlton House Tce) • 14 international speakers, including D Miller (Stanford), D Ham (Harvard), M Lipson (Cornell) and R Sarpeshkar (MIT) brought together with experts from the UK to discuss the diverse opportunities and methodologies that will define future electronics • The Long Arm of Microelectronics – Royal Society (Chicheley Hall) • Less formal discussion meeting with London speakers + UK academics + M Muller (ARM) and J Penders (IMEC) as well as a poster session • eFuturesXD £600k account • awarded from EPSRC for cross-disciplinary research with electronics • 32 applications received, 11 awarded • Web site: http://www.eFutures.ac.uk • 12000 hits; user directory; news; upload own member and institution profiles

Future eFutures • Building Bridges • introduce sets of people to each other who would not, in the normal course of professional events, have an opportunity to interact • security; sensors to systems; high voltage systems; healthcare etc.. • Supporting Early Careers • talented researchers are essential to our future and they need to build success through sustainable research activities • ECR Crucible (with project funding); PhD student events
