  3. March 25th Purpose Understand who you are as an individual including strengths and weaknesses. Activities • Bookroom to check out Into the Wild • Finish handout for test. • Simpsons Myers-Briggs personalities. Add to handout if needed.

  4. March 26th Purpose Understand who you are as an individual including strengths and weaknesses. To understand how happiness can be defined by scientists. Activities • Discuss results of Myers-Briggs. Surprises? • Overview of the unit – Pursuit of Happiness. • TED Talk – We Are We Happy?

  5. March 27th Purpose To understand how a cover can reveal more about a book. Activities • Discuss key points about the cover and parts of the book. • Read author’s commentary and insight about the book.

  6. March 28th Purpose To utilize close reading skills for the purposes of critical thinking and definitions. Activities • Sustained reading. • Completion of Packet #1.

  7. March 28th Purpose To understand how a cover can reveal more about a book. Activities • Discuss key points about the cover and parts of the book. • Read author’s commentary and insight about the book.

  8. March 31st Purpose To understand key themes and ideas within the novel. Activities • Discuss characterization of Chris. • Review theme of isolation. • Discuss epigraphs.

  9. April 1st Purpose To understand the definition of Transcendentalism. Activities • Transcendentalism Power Point. • Poetry in Springboard – page 365.

  10. April 2nd Purpose To understand the definition of Transcendentalism as it applies to poetry. Activities • Transcendentalism Power Point– finish for two classes. • Poetry in Springboard – page 365. • Begin quote analysis of one.

  11. April 3rd Purpose To make connections with short readings. Activities • Handout for short reading. • Finish Into the Wild packet #1.

  13. April 4th Purpose To utilize close reading skills for the purposes of critical thinking and definitions. Activities • Sustained reading. • Completion of Packet #2.

  14. April 14th Purpose To provide information to the district. Activities • Environmental Survey in the library.

  15. April 15th Purpose Understand how short writing can connect to larger pieces of literature. Activities • Review Quindlan’s Commencement Speech. • Time for packet and reading of Into the Wild. • Remember that tomorrow is the SAT. Thursday we will review Activities 2-4 of our packet as a whole class. This means you may or may not have it all done.

  16. April 17th Purpose Understand imagery, characterization and impressions of novel. Activities • Review Activities 2-4 of our packet. We will first do this in small groups and then move to a whole class. • 20 minutes in a small group with a focus on characterization. • Whole class with focus on imagery and impressions through epigraphs.

  17. April 18th Purpose To utilize close reading skills for the purposes of critical thinking and definitions. Activities • Sustained reading. • Completion of Packet #3.

  18. April 21st Purpose To compare and contrast wilderness techniques. Activities • Venn diagram for Chris and Bear Grylls. Preparedness Experience Knowledge

  19. April 22nd Purpose To evaluate a short piece of writing as it connects to the novel. Activities • Read part of “All I Really Needed To Know I Learned in Kindergarten” from Springboard – pg.367

  20. April 23rd Purpose To understand key vocabulary from the novel. Activities • Review vocabulary for the quiz tomorrow.

  21. April 24th Purpose To show understanding of vocabulary from the novel. Activities • Vocabulary quiz. • Finish packet for this week.

  22. April 25th Purpose To utilize close reading skills for the purposes of critical thinking and definitions. Activities • Sustained reading. • Completion of Packet #4.

  23. April 28th Purpose To make connections to literature for understanding. To connect contemporary literature from a different lens. Activities • Review activities from packet #4. • Compare and contrast Cheryl Strayed reading from Wild.

  24. April 29th Purpose To examine the effect of imagery in a short piece of writing. Activities • Read “The Chase” by Annie Dillard on page 397 of your Springboard. Discuss how imagery makes a piece of writing come alive. • Review parts of Into the Wild.

  25. April 30th Purpose To introduce EA #2. Activities • Discuss multi-genre project. • Generate student questions. • Timeline for completion.

  26. May 1st Purpose To exhibit an understanding of self as it relates to happiness. Activities • Review EA #1 requirements. • Review EA #1 rubric. • Due – May 8th

  27. May 2nd Purpose To use close reading skills in order to understand the novel. Activities • Reading of chapters 13-15 • Completion of packet for Monday review and discussion.
