Art Trip to Kolkata, India Mrs Christoforou and Miss Mure had a fantastic opportunity to visit our partner school, St Thomas’ Girls School, in Kolkata, India, in November 2009.
St Thomas’s Girls School We spent 4 days in St Thomas’, 2 of which we spent teaching. Below are the group of girls we worked with. One of the schools beautiful gardens We also visited the primary school, which is on the same grounds The Library and a few teachers
Students and teachers from St Thomas’ presented a wonderful assembly especially for Sion Manning Staff. Miss Mure and Ms Christoforou were traditionally welcomed at the start then talked about Sion Manning and life in London. The students performed songs and traditional dances. It was a truly humbling experience.

Mrs Christoforou’s Art Lessons Mrs Christoforou worked with over 30 students who took part in this art lesson. St Thomas’ does not teach Art in their curriculum, so the girls were very keen to get creative! All the girls were very polite and hard working. They produced some beautiful work even though they had very few materials to work with.
Miss Mure’s Photoshop Workshops Thankyou The girls made this beautiful card for us on our last day Miss Mure worked with 10 students in ICT. She taught them how to manipulate and create their own images using Adobe Photoshop. The staff and girls were very pleased with what they achieved in such a short time, by the second day they had produced two more versions of work. Miss Mure was very impressed with this! Unfortunately we had a small technical hitch and lost a lot of the work, we hope to get the girls to email their work to us soon. Here are a few examples
The Government College of Art and Craft We came across this college whilst walking around central Kolkata. The head of Fine Art was kind enough to give us a tour of the whole college Traditional Indian Painting Textiles Painting Sculpture Ceramics
General scenes of Kolkata We both had a very interesting and enjoyable experience in St Thomas’ and Kolkata in general. The trip was far beyond our expectations. St Thomas’ showed us amazing hospitality and went out of their way to make our stay extremely enjoyable.
