1892 –Term “Distance Education” use the first time. • 1906-7 – First distance learning institution found University of Wisconsin-Extension • 1953 – University of Houston offers first televised college credit classes. • 1953-1956 – Updated teaching machine created by B.F. Skinner • 1956-1958 – 163 high school physics lessons were produced and broadcast into public schools in Pittsburgh. • 1960 – PLATO (Programmed Logic for Automated Teaching Operations) was created for students to use on the internet • 1977 – Educational teleconferencing, Computer Aided Instruction THE HISTORY OF THE VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
