Refining Oil Refining Oil is an industrial process plant where crude oil is processed and refined to be more useful. Oil is used for petroleum products such as gasoline. Oil refineries use chemical plants.
Causes of Oil Spills There are many different accidents that can lead to oil spills. Collisions, Hull failures, Fire and explosions and groundings all of these have caused Oil Spills. Most oil spills are caused by ships traveling with lots of oil and loading the oil onto the ship.
Techniques for Cleaning A commonly used method of cleaning up oil is called a Boom. A boom is a bunch of floating barriers placed around the where the oil leaked. Another technique is a skimmer which is boats, vacuum machines and oil absorbent ropes. The oil is then placed into a container so it can be removed.
Effects of Oil Spills Oil spills can have serious effects on the environment. It can harm animals and even people. It definitely affects the economy gas prices will raise because of so much gas is being lost during the spills. Oil spills also affect the fishing industry because the fish get covered and oil and become poisonous .
